FBI-approved channelers act as authorized intermediaries to streamline the process of obtaining Identity History Summary checks (commonly referred to as FBI background checks).

Their services include:

  • Submission Handling: Receiving fingerprint submissions and relevant applicant data.
  • Secure Electronic Transmission: Forwarding fingerprint submissions and required information to the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division for a comprehensive national Identity History Summary check.
  • Result Dissemination: Receiving the electronic summary check results from the CJIS Division and securely delivering them to the requesting individual.
  • Fee Collection: Managing payment of all associated processing fees.

FBI-approved channelers enhance efficiency by expediting the submission and delivery of Identity History Summary information on behalf of the FBI, ensuring a faster and more accessible process for applicants.

Obtain an Apostille for an FBI Background Check

Procedure:

  1. Acquire a Digital FBI Background Check:
    • Option A: Obtain the background check directly from the FBI website: https://www.edo.cjis.gov.
    • Option B: Utilize an FBI-approved channeler (listed on the FBI website). Note that channelers typically offer expedited services for a higher fee. Importantly, channelers do not possess any special authority to obtain an apostille. They may subcontract to private services for expedited apostille processing, which could result in longer overall processing times.
  2. Save the Digital FBI Background Check: Store the digital file securely on your computer or mobile device.
  3. Submit the Document for Apostille: Visit www.fbiexpress.com and upload your digital FBI background check.
  4. Receive the Apostilled Document:

Note: FBI Express, supported by United States Apostille, facilitates the apostille process by physically submitting documents to the U.S. Department of State. While the Department of State advertises an 8-business-day expedited service, due to their operating hours (Monday-Thursday), the actual processing time is closer to 12 calendar days. Currently, no faster processing options are available through the U.S. Department of State.
